Invitation

WELCOME TO ASAHIKAWA

Situated in central Hokkaido, Asahikawa is Hokkaido’s second largest city, with a population of 350,000. Located in a large open valley with four major rivers flowing through the city, and surrounded by mountains that are home to several ski resorts, snow is guaranteed for the dates for the World Cup and far beyond.

Asahikawa has a major airport with direct flights from Tokyo, and 4 universities. It is famous in Japan for its progressive zoo which attracts over 1.5 million visitors a year. Every winter the city hosts a large Winter Snow Festival.

With snow on the ground for 4 months of the year, cross-country skiing is a popular sport, and the city hosts an FIS Cross-Country marathon race (Japan Vasaloppet) every year. In February, the average temperature is -6.5C and the average snow base is 90cm. The organizers are excited to host the IPC family, and Asahikawa looks forward to welcoming athletes from around the world.
